Watch your mailbox for the information package detailing the upcoming changes. St. Thomas has an outstanding waste management program. Recognized as a national leader, our local efforts in managing solid waste and recycling have been the model used for development of similar programs throughout North America. Since the implementation of the city's program for the curbside collection of compostible materials, about one-half of all the waste that is collected under the City's waste management service with BFI Canada continues to be diverted away from landfill and is either recycled or reused. The program for individual residences includes weekly garbage removal plus bi-weekly removal of "Blue Box" recyclables and collection of "Green Box" compostible materials on alternating weeks.
