ELGIN ST. THOMAS HEALTH UNIT 

 

Elgin St. Thomas Public Health (ESTPH) works together with our communities to promote and protect the health of people who live, work and play in Elgin County. We deliver a variety of health programs and services set by the Province of Ontario. The Board of Health for Elgin St. Thomas is the governing body of Elgin St. Thomas Public Health. The Board is accountable to the community, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the Ministry of Health Promotion, and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. The Board is comprised of seven members - 6 municipal leaders and 1 public appointee.

Board of Health meetings are held monthly at Elgin St. Thomas Public Health and are open to the public.

ESTPH provides programs, events and clinics such as:

  • Nobody’s Perfect parenting program
  • Well Baby drop-in clinics
  • Immunization clinics
  • Car seat installation seminars
  • Sexual health clinics
  • Quit smoking clinics
  • Safe Grad workshops
  • Food Safe classes

ESTPH supports families with:

  • Telephone contact by a Public Health Nurse after delivery of a baby
  • Healthy Babies, Healthy Children home visiting program
  • Prenatal classes
  • Dental screening and treatment
  • Let’s Grow information for ages and stages

ESTPH is in the community providing:

  • Infection control in institutions
  • Inspections of food service operations
  • Management of infectious diseases and outbreaks
  • Enforcement of Smoke Free Ontario Act
  • Health promotion in schools and workplaces
  • Investigations into animal bites and health hazards
  • Water testing
  • Advocacy for a healthy community

The City's Contractor is continuing construction on the Moore Street and L&PS Train Station/Rail Corridor capital projects. The balance of construction work on Talbot Street, after the road closure for the placement of the first lift of base course asphalt on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, involves the installation of curb/gutter, sidewalk, paving stones, second lift of base course asphalt, surface course pavement layer, and other miscellaneous surface works.
